|
Clinical pharmacy services are a major component of the comprehensive pharmaceutical services offered at The Ohio State University Medical Center. Services include therapeutic drug monitoring, pharmacokinetics, medication use evaluation and nutritional support. Clinical specialists are intimately involved with a variety of services including cardiology, nephrology/transplantation, hematology/oncology, bone marrow transplant, critical care, internal medicine, nutritional support/surgery, psychiatry, rehabilitation, neonatal intensive care, women's health, pain management/palliative care, infectious disease, and drug information. These pharmacists round with their respective services daily and are involved with pharmacokinetic drug monitoring, medication utilization evaluations, chart documentation, antibiotic utilization reviews, teaching, and research. An investigational drug service is provided by the Department of Pharmacy. This service is involved with the procurement and inventory of investigational drugs for research protocols. Protocols are developed in conjunction with the primary researcher in each investigational drug study. |
The Center for Drug Policy provides medication information to medical, nursing, and allied medical professions in the patient care, teaching, and research programs, as well as coordinates all Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee related functions. The center maintains a library with the latest pharmacological and medical texts, medical/pharmaceutical journals and newsletters, manufacturers' literature, cumulated indices, and many other references on medication therapy. All pharmacists at The Ohio State University Medical Center provide educational services. Clinical specialists have the opportunity to teach a wide variety of health care professionals. Their knowledge and expertise benefits everyone from medical students and residents to Pharm.D. students and pharmacy residents who take advantage of their rotations. The emphasis on clinical services supports improved patient care/patient safety, cost containment, and the education of other health care professionals. The Department of Pharmacy is devoted to furthering and maintaining these clinical services by involving all members of the staff.
